I leave Brooklyn over the tall Bronx-Whitestone Bridge onto the New England Thruway to get out of New York, then pick up Highway 1 up the East Coast to Massachusetts.

I’m heading for Seabrook, and look up one of the ship officers from the Santa Lucia. He has moved, but a very friendly John McFarlane puts me in contact with his friend, John Fields, a photographer from Aukland, New Zealand.

I backtrack to Gloucester, to a little blue church where they live and work. They contact a reporter, who chats with me for about two hours.
